The Light Company of the 39th (now the Devonshire and Dorset Regiment) were among the leading troops to attack the French at Vittoria. They held their ground against far greater numbers until the line was turned elsewhere and the enemy retreated. This Colour Sergeant, recently arrived from England, is one of the few to wear the new shako.
